Lielā talka

Lielā talka (A Big Subbotnik) was held in Latvia yesterday.
Liela talka is a day of voluenteer work organized for cleaning nature of garbage. This subbotnik was devoted to the 90 anniversary of the Latvia Independence.
President and Prime Minister collected garbage among tens thousands of people as well, showing a good example for everybody.

Come on!
The translation "A Big Subbotnik" is absolutely incorrect.
Why? Because the term "subbotnik" is Russian Soviet vocabulary word introduced by Bolsheviks shortly after October coup (around 1920) and is out of context here.
The correct translation could be something like "the great helping out" or "the great volunteer effort". Clean-up done by environmentally aware volunteers, actually.
how can compulsory work be called volunteering except in an Orwelllian world of double-talk?
